Sasha Khan (UK) – Symbols EP

Sasha Khan (East Midlands, UK) is interested in all things Jungle / DnB / Breakbeat, and has been producing electronic music since he first got his hands on a drum machine and 4-track tape recorder.

Sasha Khan’s inspiration for his Symbols EP was drawn from early 90′s Jungle Techno and Hardcore; up-dated with modern Drum and Bass production techniques and Synthesis.

The lead track, “Love Song” is a gentle nod towards “The Lighter” by DJ SS, which sampled 1970′s film “Love Story”‘s theme. “Infinite Possibilities” makes use of a repetitive bass riff and chopped Amen’s; layered with other breaks. Finally, “Questions” was inspired by Derby-based dnb producer: DJ Theory.

Iron Shirt Recs 04 – Ghost Note – Vespertine EP

Ghost Note (Tauranga, New Zealand) comes from a musical background of dark garage, ambient and minimal techno roots, and builds tunes based on the bare essentials of dubstep: sub bass, atmosphere and scattered hi-hats.

Purposely avoiding the ‘over-production’ style currently favoured by many artists in this genre, Ghost Note instead goes for a more raw and organic sound that lets the emotion of the music come through. Over-used robot noises and wobbles will be hard to find in his tunes, as he focuses instead on bass weight and percussion.

Ghost Note’s sound ranges from sparse meditative tunes (à la Kryptic Minds), to more upbeat (Truth-esque) skankers with the addition of melodic tunes influenced by future garage rhythms. Enthusiasts of bass music are sure to find something they enjoy on Ghost Note’s “Vespertine” EP.

“I try to produce music that I want to hear in the clubs. A lot of them are influenced by reggae/dub, jungle or soul, and sometimes a mix of all three. I always make sure the tunes I make sound weighty on the sound system, as a good bassline will always get the ravers moving.”

His second EP for JungleXpediitons “Chapter One in Dub” is a study of rough and rugged dubwise music and sits perfectly between ragga-jungle and drum and bass.
